Saving for the Sake of Saving? Here’s a Better Alternative | HDM 193

Thinking 'Outside the Box' to Save Your Money | HDM 193

Are you saving (or planning to) just because that’s what grown people do? If you’re like most of us, you’ve probably heard that savvy people should have savings (pun totally intended). But here is the kicker: while 90% of the time I find myself agreeing with the general lines of that handy line of thinking, experience has taught me that, more often than not, saving just for the sake of saving is not the best financial plan. In this episode, Cindy Zuniga and Katia Perez-Chesnok will share with us their top insights to save more and better.

Unless you grew up in a financially literate household, I’d bet that no one ever taught you saving strategies in your formative years. Just think about those years for a second. I’m positive that most adults around you stressed the importance of always having some form of savings tucked away in a safe place, but probably no one asked you to come up with reasons for stashing money away in the first place or think about what specific plans you had for that money. Buying your first car? Paying your college moving costs? Funding a gap year trip?

The truth is that saving just for the sake of saving (aka, stashing money away) is not the best way to prepare for the future. As it happens with all things money-related, the secret ingredient for success has all to do with intention, purpose, and some serious out-of-the-box thinking.

If you are amongst those who believe that you have to save now and  “figure out” later what you will do with all that saved cash, you have to listen to this episode. This week we are having a mini-round table with Cindy Zuniga and Katia Perez-Chesnok on all things savings.

What you’ll learn about in today’s episode:

  • The main mistake people make when they start saving,
  • Challenges Cindy and Katia had when saving and how they overcame them.
  • Creative ways to save more money consistently
