How Shopping “Healthy” Can Cause Your Money To Make An Appearance In The Trash

Just look at this picture!  You cannot tell me healthy does not look good :-).  It is very easy though to throw your money in the trash if you are not careful and I am going to share with you how.

Let me disclose two things before I go on:

#1. I am by no means a health expert, I’m just expressing my view in relation to finances.

#2.  I simply want you to think more, so you can save more money while making the best + healthiest choices possible for you!

I believe the health “fad” is here to stay and that it is transforming from a fad to a way of life.  Many people want to be healthy and are more conscious of their food choices.

However, with the greatest intentions when purchasing “healthier” items,  we still throw money in the trash more times then we think!

Here is how…

Buying foods simply because it says “organic.”

Buying organic is ultimately a choice. Have you noticed though how many things are being sold that are labeled organic? Have you found yourself buying it just because it says it’s organic? Here is a handy list sharing what produce you should buy organic and what produce there is no need to.  Let’s take it back to the basics.  They sell organic chips + organic cookies, but is this necessarily better for you? They are still chips & cookies!  I’ll let you answer that question, though especially if you love your chips and cookies **wink, wink**.

Falling prey to the clever labeling.

A lot of packaging now is starting to say Gluten-Free, Organic, Non-GMO and so forth. Yes it is meant to be helpful for those that are looking for these options, BUT these are meant to get your attention subconsciously so you purchase it.  This is clever labeling, they know if they put these “hot” words on the label you are more bound to look at it and even maybe purchase it!  I know I have found myself putting stuff in the shopping cart when I see that without really thinking, do you? These items include foods that if you really step back and splash yourself with some water you realize that they aren’t really “healthy.”  A blatant example is soda, it is starting to be labeled Gluten-Free, but we know that soda is not healthy!   Again take it back to the basics and don’t be swayed by the labeling.

Plainly, not being ready to commit to your health.

Let’s face it, the healthier, unprocessed food does cost more money on the surface.  Therefore, you need to be all in and committed to the lifestyle change. If you don’t chances are high that you won’t use the food, so it goes bad + you’ll end up buying more food (this part is what costs you the most).  Sometimes this decision takes some time and that is ok.  I know it took me years to commit.  Just buy accordingly so you don’t end up wasting your money.  Know what you are going to cook for the week and buy the necessary ingredients for those meals., which of course means planning ahead!

I want to hear from you.  Are you guilty any of the 3 above?  Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!

Abrazos (**hugs**),
